I've been working with Shane since 2015. When we first started working together I was struggling with hydration and stomach issues during ultra marathon cycling events. My stomach just could not handle the fluid intake and I'd end up with an upset stomach, not drinking enough, and twice this landed me in the hospital. Shane turned that around. He helped me figure out what foods and drinks I could stomach and more importantly how to and when to use them based on the conditions and listening to my body.
Under Shane's guidance, I've since won 13 of the last 18 ultra marathon cycling events I've entered including two 5th place finishes at the 24 Hour World Championships and winning two National Championship titles in both the 24 Hour and 500 mile disciplines.

My nutrition planning is a bit tricky, as I have health problems which include persistent anemia and an allergy to Gluten and Soy. I also don't tolerate dairy terribly well, so Shane had to work around quite a few food intolerances and allergies when helping to develop on and off bike nutrition guidance for me. Shane also identified that I was under-fueling, and not taking in enough fluids or electrolytes during my Ultra Distance Races even though I thought that I was eating and drinking more than enough. While I never had any full-on bonks during an Ultra Race, I noticed a considerable improvement in my late-race performance and post-race recovery after implementing Shane's recommendations.

Having participated in the Race Across America (RAAM), the Race Across the West (RAW) and the Race Around Ireland (RAI) I am very familiar with the critical importance of having solid and experienced crew support. During the Pace Bend Ultra Shane anticipated my clothing needs (rain, drizzle, cold) and provided me with hydration, food and lights without me even having to think about it. I followed his lead. He kept me informed as to my progress in the race, encouraging me on when the fatigue and weather conditions weighed me down.
I had been struggling for several months with chronic leg tendonitis that flared up during the race. Shane’s experience became even more important as he knew half a dozen ways to manage this problem so that I wound up completing my race … and feeling that he and I were a solid team.
